At the start of August the 4th annual BASSCOAST PROJECT music festival happened again up the Squamish Valley...and oh boy did it ever happen!!
The idea for my stage came from an old painting I had done a dance party about 8 years ago. It was the first "live" painting that I had ever done.
In the piece there were 4 people dancing in front of massive stacks of speakers (picture attached) and I figured since the stage design was for a music festival that the art made sense. After my trip to Europe I was inspired to do something a little interactive and involving gears after exploring a friends clock tower and going to a crazy club in Prague ... so this is what I came up with.
I talked to every bike shop in the Sea-to-Sky corridor and got old broken cogs, chains and gears and managed to Frankenstein together a really cool interactive stage where the centers of the speakers turned when you cranked a handle, a unicorn reared up with a girl on it's back and made a 15 foot wide set of turntables with a mixer that all of the dials worked and the records could spin.
I wish I was smart enough to have taken a bunch of video...but alas, I was exhausted and just wanted to enjoy watching people interact with it once it was finished construction. I'm hoping to have some video pop up from others sometime soon so I'll keep you posted on that.
