Well today is the first day of Spring. The days are longer and the cherry blossoms are starting to bloom down in Vancouver. I love this time of year. It's the start of something new, a time of hope and it means we will soon be running around in the sunshine in the great outdoors. It's a time of great inspiration for me and I tend to be really productive. This spring I have a ton of art projects on the go that I am really looking forward to.
Last year I had done a piece for the 125th Anniversary of Glacier National Park which was a winter scene. I am a little behind on the second piece they asked for which will be a summer scene...that's top on my list right now. I have also been asked to do a tonne of tattoo designs for a number of people which I am really excited to do. It's quite an honor to be asked to design a piece of work that will grace someones body for the rest of their life. At the start of June the Whistler Half Marathon has asked me to design the award posters for the event. I did them last year as well and had a great response. The one piece I am really excited about is a painting I am doing to help raise money to help save BC's coastline from the inevitable oil spill that will happen if the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline is allowed to pump oil through our pristine wilderness and then get loaded on to kilometer long super tankers and then shipped through the 3 most hazardous shipping way in the world... smack dab in the middle of untouched northern coastline.
At the end of June I will be embarking with an elite team of BC artists and sailing the proposed tanker route in order to get inspiration to paint a piece that reflects the beauty of the area and to capture that pristine piece of wilderness that is at risk of catastrophe. Last summer when I was up in Haida Gwaii on a similar trip I absolutely fell in love with the area and I now cannot sit idly by and watch such a beautiful area, teaming with life, be at risk. I will have more information on the trip and the project as it becomes available to me... but in the meantime, if you love our planet please do what you can to prevent this cash grab from happening! Otherwise instead of painting beautiful seascapes I will be painting hideous oil slicks and devastated landscapes. I draw my inspiration from nature so if nature is destroyed...so will be my inspiration.
But enough about that... I am celebrating the onset of Spring by offering up another great sale. For the next 2 weeks I am doing 25% off all of my prints. Just enter this coupon code when you go to checkout and the discount will be applied: spring_bling_2012
This April during the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival up in Whistler I will be displaying 14 new pieces that I am working on as we speak. they will range from 3"x 3" to 11" X 14" and they are all framed...and all reasonably priced. Apparently State of The Art will be putting them online for sale as well so definitely check them out if you want a little piece of my art for your home. I will post a link up once I know what it is.
Also a reminder that in June I will be teaching a 3 day art class for intermediate painters. The focus of the class is to learn techniques to improve your creative flow as well as how to nurture your style to make it more unique. here is the link for more information: http://www.artswhistler.com/events-a-programs/whistler-art-workshops-on-the-lake
Well...that's enough for now. Get out and enjoy the first day of Spring!!!!!
