Music is an integral part of my life, the mix of different sounds and instruments flowing together is similar to when I mix different colours and put them on a canvas. Painting and DJ'ing are like having two different languages that don't even require words; they allow to communicate without speaking. When I stand there in front of a large group of people I feel the energy of the crowd and try to select tracks that speaks, not only to the people, but to the moment. Music has a way of healing and elevating a mood, if I'm feeling a little blue it's usually as easy as throwing on a good record to brighten my day. That alone shows you the power of music.
After 11 years of tearing up the Whistler club/underground scene as DJ Mr FIster, I took on another monikor "Dr.Awesome" for the 2010 Olympic Winter games, because really... No one in their right minds would put 'Mr. Fister' as the headlining act. I was the headline DJ during the awards ceremony for the first gold medal Canada received in Whistler. After that totally wicked experience I got to headline every night of the Paralympics as well. Now that the games are over I'm a little tired of all the ridiculous DJ monikers out there I'm just going to save the confusion and go by: Chili Thom.
I like funk, soul, disco, breaks, electro, swing, hip hop, some house, oldies, newies, 80's, 50's, 60's...well pretty much everything. I always try and bring a little extra variety in my sets in attempt to bring a little something fresh for your listening pleasure. I still have a gang of records, yes the black vinyl things some of you might remember...yes, believe it or not people do still play them! I especially dig the 45's (the little records for those of you who don't know). Basically I like to keep things funky and I dig music with Lyrics.
I have been DJ'ing for 11 years now, over those years I have had the pleasure of playing with a huge array of big name DJ's such as Mat the Alien, Vinyl Ritchie, DJ Czech, Malente, Fort Knox 5, All Good Funk Alliance, Small town DJ's, Neighbor, Stanton Warriors, DJ Ayres, Cosmo Baker, A-Skills, Ali B, Nick Thayer, Torpedo Boyz, Wax Romeo, J-Pod... the list goes on and on. I have played across Canada, in the States, Australia, Nicaragua and 7 times during Shambhala. I've spun at Basscoast, Burningman, during the Olympics, weddings funerals, bar mitzvah's, openings, closings, art shows, apres, after parties, house parties, solo parties... you name it....I've played it and I don't intend to stop anytime soon!!
