Entries for April 2010

A sigh of relief

I can breath deeply now that I have made it through the most hectic, busy and exciting year of my life.  This season was crazy.  I managed to open my gallery, totally kill it at the 2010 Olympics and Paralympics and finished the season of with a successful group show at the gallery.  It might not sound like that much, bt trust me, it nearly finished me off..now it's time for me to step back and relax for a little bit to recharge and coast on my successes for a bit.  I feel that I was hit with the 'overachiever bug'  on my birthday last year and I have finally kicked it!   The timing was right though and it was a chance of a lifetime... I'm glad I didn't blow it.

Now it's time for me to focus on my gallery and to start spending more time painting for myself.  My next plans, whenever I can pull it off is for a show at my gallery called "The forest for the trees" and it will be all lush, green west coast forests.  It should make a great impact in my space and I will be incorporating some little extras in the multi-media world to make it something extra special.  I'll be sending updates on that as the pieces come to life.  I don't want to claim a date yet so that I don't have to chase my tail to meet it!

For those of you who were interested in prints of the "CTV Olympic Breakfast" piece that I painted live during the games...I finally have prints available.  They are 18x36 paper prints and are going for $99.  I will post them up on my site when I get a second.  I will also be making prints of "Float on" in the next few weeks.  It's a geat piece and dozens of people were asking about it during the show...gotta keep the crowd happy  :)

In other news... I will be away in NIcaragua for 3 weeks mid May to relax, surf and film a B-grade horror movie... Good times on all accounts!  If anyone is looking for a print or painting for a specific event (birthday, wedding) that you might need it around early June please let me know asap so I can make arrangements before I go away.

I hope you all get a chance to get out and smell the flowers this spring!  Remember to take time for yourself, slow down and enjoy life as it comes...I just remembered to do that myself!

Mid way through the show

It's 7pm right now and this is the halfway point of the group show at the gallery.  It has been great.  Over a hundred people through here already and the next night time onslought is about to happen. Sales have been good and the artistic turnout is amazing.  The best artists in the area have come together to put on a fantastic show!  Paintings, sculpture, jewelery, prints, t-shirts and stickers.  I did a video walk through, but I cant upload it from my compuer...soon I promise, just so you can see what it looks like in here!

This is the start of the revoluton in Whistler in terms of art and culture.  Keep an eye out on ths town cuz things are changing and the artists are on the forefront!  It feels really awesome to finally have a space that can showcase to the world what a great art scene we have in this part of the world.

Thanks for the support... keep your eyes peeled...it's all happening now!!

Upcoming sho

HI Everyone,

I am having a big group show on April 24th at the Gallery noon until LATE.
There will be several new artists in the mix with a large assortment of work. There will be new paintings, loads of prints, more jewelery, stickers and T-shirts!

This is the first show I've had here since the opening because of the whirlwind of excitement with the Olympics... and I am really looking forward to it. This is an opportunity for you to come out and see what the Whistler art scene has to offer!

I am putting all of my prints on sale at 20% (on the 24th only) and I will have a number of different pieces that I have created both live and as an experiment in style. If you are a collector then a few of the pieces that are up for grabs have a cool story behind them and were instrumental in the evolution of my style.

Here are some links to the websites of the other artists that I will have at the show:

As well, just a reminder about the art class I am teaching down in Baja Mexico. It is booked through ACE Camps and will be really fun. It is a week full of surfing, snorkeling, art gallery tours and of course, art class with yours truly! I will do 2 days of workshops on how to paint water and waves, which is very tough to do. Then after you have a better understanding of the techniques we will work on a big collaborative piece that will be donated to the local soccer club so that the kids can afford to travel to all of their away games ( a great cause in my eyes).

It will be a fun week of hanging out n the sunshine in the water and getting to know some great people.

I hope you can make it to the show! If you can't maybe you could let anyone else know that might be in town and want to come check out some great art!

I hope you have a great weekend!
Thanks for your support

Stuff 'n Things

It sure feels nice to be back in the swing of things at my gallery.  The plans for the showsale on April 24th are coming aling nicely.  I have a bunch of other local artists on board for the event.  I will be offeering a 20%on my work that day in order to move some overstock and make room for the new pieces I have planned for the next few months.

I have just had a published artist feature online at http://www.thenewnew.ca/2010/04/05/art-feature-chili-thom/ check it out to get some more insight in my art.

The mural project I was a part of is moving to a new loacation for a few weeks. If you are in the area go and check it out...it's a really cool collaborative piece...

The Kunamokst mural will be on the move tomorrow March 30th. We will be heading to West Vancouver and taking the mural down and moving it that same day over to its new home for 17 days- COQUITLAM CENTRE in COQUITLAM BC. Then the mural on April 18th will be moved and displayed at the VICTORIA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT until JUNE 18th. Which at that time it will be moved to its final resting place GALIANO ISLAND!!  There will be a great artists celebration on that day. A very proud day for us all. A great collaboration that has gained fans already from around the world. The details of that day will be announced in much more detail soon but circle June 20th for a visit to GALIANO ISLAND.

I am currently working on a label for Whistler Brewery for their new local Lager... if you are in Whistler come try a beer, and keep the art on the bottle!

that's it that's all for now!  Thanks for believing

Back in my head

I just got back from a great week on Vancouver Island surfing and relaxing.  I got to witness a crazy stormin Tofino...24 foot waves, 80 km winds, sideways hail and pure chaos in the ocean...it was amazing to experience.  I got loads of inspiration for some lush forest scenes and I think that will the theme for my next big show.  Imagine a room full of lush green forest paintings...yum!

I have just updated my Etsy site and I have all of my available prints listed there now so check it out and see if there is something new!

I am planning a big sale at my gallery on the 23-24 of April during the World Ski and Snowboard Festival.  I'm going to have 20% savings on my stuff and I am getting a lot of new artists in soon as well.  There will be lots of prints, originals and over stock.  The jewelers are bringing in some new stock too... I still need to get my links page set up on my site so you can check out all the other amazing artists and jewelers that I have in the gallery now... that will happen in time...baby steps, baby steps.

I have done a few live pieces during the Olympics that I am just cleaning up now and they will be on sale as well.  There will be images of them on the site as soon as I finish them up.

just a reminder that there is still room for people in the art class I am teaching down in the Baja.  It's 8 days of surfing, art, boat trip, a dj set by yours truely at a resort, and I will be teaching you how to paint water and waves.  The group will also do a collaborative painitng that the proceed from will go to a local kids soccer club to help them travel to all their games!
